GURNEY, Wis. - Robert "Snuffy" Parrell Ofstad, 88, of Gurney, Wis., passed away with his family by his side on Jan. 27, 2019.
Robert was born Aug. 5, 1930 in Superior, Wis., to parents Inga (Swanson) and Parrell Ofstad, of Superior.
He attended Superior Central High School in Superior; and after graduation, he moved to Gurney, Wis. He met Doris Rowe, and they married in 1952. In 2018, they celebrated 66 years of marriage.
Over the years, Robert worked at various locations through the region including Barr Farm, Beloit Industries, the Town of Gurney, Gurney School and the Iron County Forestry Department. He retired from the forestry department in 1990.
Throughout this life, Robert loved to spend time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He liked volunteering, including being a member of the Saxon-Gurney Fire Department, Gurney Community Club and Saxon-Gurney Lions Club.
Robert was a lifetime member of the Nation Rifle Association and loved to hunt with his family. He also spent time collecting coins, tinkering in the garage and loved spending time in his garden and in the woods.
Surviving are his wife, Doris; 8 children, Dale (Diane), of Gurney; Roxanne (Bruce) Norman, of Davenport, Iowa; Robert (Cathy), of Hurley; Daniel (Sharon), of Kimball; Toni (Roger) Ratkowski, of Saxon; Jamie (Nichole), of Saxon; Perry (Staci), of Saxon; and Stacy (Heidi), of Saxon; 24 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and special friends Charlotte and Bill Galarno, of Gurney.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Annette, and grandchildren Damian Cole and Wendy Nicole.
There will be a visitation and celebration of life on Thursday, Jan. 31 at the Hurley Memorial Building at 11 a.m. for family and friends. A private service for family will be held at 10 a.m.
