Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties
MERCER, Wis. — All Mercer School staff and substitute teachers participated in an active shooter training during a teacher in-service day on Friday, Jan. 18.
Staff participated in several live simulations throughout the school to mimic various scenarios, as well as hands on, active shooter defense training, according to district administrator Erik Torkelson.
Facilitating the training were officers Ty Peterson, Dan Perry and Zach Kozisek of Law Dogs Inc. Also participating were Iron County Sheriff Department deputies Eric Snow and Mike Randall.
Torkelson said he was impressed with the presentation.
“This is our second training with Law Dogs and we continue to be impressed with their preparation and attention to detail. They customized each of our sessions to make it applicable to our school facilities,” said Torkelson. “They made our staff feel comfortable and made sure that everyone was actively involved.”
“A huge thank you to the Iron County Sherrifs Department for their active participation,” Torkelson said. “While there is no perfect plan, we owe to our students and parents to be as prepared as we possibly can.”
