Ironwood — The accidental discharge of a gun drew a police response and temporarily locked down the Ironwood Walmart Thursday afternoon.
Deputies with the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department responded to reports of a gunshot in the store at approximately 2:35 p.m., Sheriff Pete Matonich said in a press release.
Responding officers quickly determined a customer accidentally discharged a gun in the store’s bathroom area, according to the release.
While there was a brief lockdown in the store, Matonich said there were no injuries or threats to others.
The man, 58, was legally licensed to carry a concealed weapon, Matonich said.
While the man exited Walmart property, he “immediately returned to report the incident to officers on scene,” Matonich said.
The department isn’t releasing the man’s name at this time, pending further investigation and review by Gogebic County Prosecutor Nick Jacobs.
Michigan State Police troopers were among those who also responded to the scene.
