Ironwood - City crews in Ironwood are in the process of clearing snow from the downtown area.
According to a post on the Ironwood Public Safety Department's Facebook page, residents are being reminded to not park on the south side of Aurora Street from Albany Street to Marquette Street and also on the west side of Suffolk Street from McLeod Avenue to Fredrick Street. Any cars parked in these areas are subjected to receiving citations and will likely will be towed, according to officials.
The Department of Public Works hopes to have the area cleaned up by Friday morning, the post said.
Another post by the department asked residents who put out garbage cans to make sure they are set back behind the snowbanks until the city crew is able to plow the streets. The department's post cites the narrow streets and the amount of snow received prevents crews from effectively removing snow when garbage cans are left in the street.
Operations manager for Eagle Waste & Recycling, Mike Koehler, said placing garbage containers behind the snow banks does not allow the drivers to reach the containers. He recommends placing the bins in an accessible spot either on top of the snow bank, or on a cleared off section of sidewalk or driveway.
Koehler said the arm of the truck can reach up to 6 feet from the truck and he just wants people to make them reachable.
"At this point we kind of work around it, because we understand what everyone is going through," he said.
