Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties
IRONWOOD, Mich. - Alberta "Birdie" June Quellette, 97, of Ironwood, entered in her eternal rest on March 2, 2019, at her home.
Birdie was born on June 16, 1921, in Saginaw, to Christian and Walburga (Frank) Felten. On June 22, 1946, she married her sweetheart Miles Erwin Barrett at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Saginaw. Alberta and Miles had two beloved daughters, which they raised on the farm they owned in Burt. They were inseparable until his death on June 19, 1973.
Birdie loved to dance and belonged to many dance clubs, it was in one of them that she met Lloyd "Joe" Quellette. Joe and Birdie were married on Feb. 1, 1986, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, spending 16 years together before his passing on Sept. 14, 2002.
Of the many things she had done in her life, she counted time spent with family and friends above all else. She loved playing board games, cards, and putting together puzzles with her grandkids and great-grandkids just as much as they did. Birdie was a volunteer for D.O.V.E. and also Copper Peak, she worked on the Gogebic County Canvas Board after each election until 2018. If you had the pleasure of going to her house you were probably greeted with a smile, a hug, and either cookies or her homemade pickles.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy J. Lacis, of Saginaw Michigan; son-in-law, Ronald R. Breiler, of Anchorage, Alaska; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and friends she considered family. Preceding her in death were her two husbands; Miles and Joe; her daughter, Donna Jean Breiler; and two sisters.
Funeral Services for Birdie will be on Tuesday, March 5, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, at E5104 Margaret St. in Ironwood, with Rev. Steve Hyvonen officiating. There will be a visitation at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will be Thursday, March 7, at 10 a.m. at the Cook Cemetery in Burt.
