SHAWANO, Wis. - Deanna H. Kumpula, 80, of Shawano, passed away on April 17, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on May 28, 1938 in Ishpeming, Mich., the daughter of the late Harold and Emma (Steffenhagen) Nicklaus. She graduated from A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer, Mich. in 1955.
Deanna was united in marriage to Gary Kumpula on Feb. 17, 1979, at Our Savior Free Lutheran Church in Bessemer. She was a bookkeeper for many companies, later retiring from Meals on Wheels in Shawano County. Deanna and Gary enjoyed traveling and camping especially the time spent at Holtwood Campground in Oconto. She treasured the time spent with family and friends.
Deanna is survived by her husband, Gary of 40 years, a daughter, Lauri Ross of Bessemer; two granddaughters: Heather Fabry and Rebecca Bushie; great-grandchildren: Charles and Violet; brother-in-law, Donald Busk, niece, Aimee Martinez and nephew, Jay Nicklaus. She is further survived by many great-nieces and nephews and dear friends. She was preceded in death by a sister, MaryAnn Busk and a brother, LaVern (Elaine) Nicklaus.
