Superior Riders starts season May 15

Ironwood — With the snow melting, outdoor enthusiasts on the Gogebic Range are putting away their skis and getting out their summer toys. Those fans of road biking can join the Superior Riders, which start its eighth season May 15.

The rides will generally take place every other Wednesday, according to organizers, starting at a different location for each ride.

Covering roughly eight to 15 miles and taking 60 to 90 minutes, the rides are doable for all skill levels.

“There might be some gravel … but it’s basically all road riding,” said Sam Davey, one of the organizers.

The rides are scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. through Aug 11, with the rides between Aug. 21 and Sept. 8 starting at 6.

The first ride is scheduled to start at Cold Iron Brewery.

The rest of the schedule is as follows:

—May 29, Rigoni’s Inn, Ayer Street.

—June 12, Don & GG’s, U.S. 2.

—June 26, Joanie’s Sidekicks, Iron Belt, Wis.

—July 10, Bank Club, Hurley.

—July 17, Festival Ironwood.

—July 24, Cold Iron Brewery, Ironwood.

—July 28, the intersection of County Road M and County Road N to St. Germain and back.

—Aug. 7, Don & GG’s.

—Aug. 11, 30-mile ride from Manitowish Waters to Boulder Junction and back.

—Aug. 21, Rigoni’s Inn.

—Aug. 25, 20-mile ride from Mercer to Manitowish Waters and back.

—Sept. 4, Bessemer VFW.

—Sept. 8, 20-mile ride from Bayfield to Madeline Island and back via ferry.

The riders also plan to have a fall cider rides at the Everson’s house, but that date still needs to be determined.
