HURLEY, Wis. - Frances B. (Elias) Holm, 83, of Ironwood, Mich., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, with her family by her side at the Villa Marie Health & Rehabilitation Center in Hurley.
She was born May 11, 1935, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Emery and Bernice Elias. Frances attended A.L. Norrie School and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School, class of 1953. On June 27, 1953, she was united in marriage to Richard D. Holm at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Ironwood, by the late Rev. Frank Ronkowski. Richard preceded Frances in death on May 18, 2013.
Frances worked as a sales clerk at F.W. Woolworth Company and S.S. Kresge Company and babysat for many children, a lot of them called her "grandma." She was a longtime member of "The Birthday Club," a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Ironwood, Mich. and former member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. She loved crocheting, baking, snowmobiling and camping with her children and grandchildren. Frances loved county music, so she went to Hodag for over 25 years. She was also a member of the Klassic Krusiers Car Club and enjoyed cruising in her 1958 Edsel. Frances dearly loved her family and will be deeply missed.
She is survived by four sons, Richard M. (Jan) Holm, Ironwood Township, Steven Holm, Ironwood, Jeffery "Jay" (Lori) Holm, Ironwood Township, and Rodney (Mary) Holm, Ironwood; one daughter, Kathy (Dan) Martinson, Bessemer; fourteen grandchildren, Michael (Margo) Holm, April Lynott, Lisa (Scott) DeNeve, Steven Holm Jr., Timothy Holm, Kristin (Brian) Wladysiale, Kristen (Phil) Brown, Katie (Jake) Allen, Jonathan Holm, Mikayla Holm, Eric Martinson, Tara (Tim) Krall, Tammie (Joe) Paoli and Danielle (David) Preston; twelve great-grandchildren, Ella, Ashley, Leandro, Amelia, Lexi, Logan, Dayne, Vin, Enzo, Easton, Rhylee, Zayne; one expected great-grandchild in May and one in October; and by one sister-in-law, Paula Elias.
In addition to her parents and husband, Frances was preceded in death by a son, Robert Dale Holm on March 5, 1983; four sisters, Mary, Helen, Annie and Bernice; and five brothers, Emery, John, Benjamin, Stanley, and Frank "Poncho."
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 24, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Ironwood, in the St. Joseph Family Room. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the church with Rev. Robb Jurkovich officiating. Lunch will be served in the parish hall immediately following the service. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Klassic Kruisers Car Club.
In accordance with Frances's wishes, cremation has taken place.
