Local schools ready for spring concerts

Ironwood - Students across the Gogebic Range are practicing as they prepare for the upcoming spring concert season.

The season kicked off Tuesday with Ironwood's fifth-grade band concert and Ewen-Trout Creek's POPS concert, featuring the district's junior-senior high school band and choir.

Hurley

Hurley's Silver Express group will have its first concert of the spring today at 7 p.m., putting on shows at the school through Friday before touring the region.

Hurley's band concert is scheduled for May 7 at 7 p.m., with the choir concert set for 7 p.m. the next day.

Mercer

In Mercer, the district's spring concert is scheduled for May 8 at 6 p.m. at the school.

Ironwood

In addition to Tuesday's performance, Ironwood students will be displaying their talents in the middle and high school band concert at 3 p.m. on May 5 at the Historic Ironwood Theatre. The district's Accent! show choir will perform May 18 at 7 p.m. at the Historic Ironwood Theatre.

Bessemer

Bessemer's band concert - featuring the district's fifth, sixth, junior high and senior high bands - is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. May 10 in the A.D. Johnston gym. The junior and senior high choir concert is scheduled to take place May 18 at 7 p.m. in the gym. Rehearsal for the elementary concert starts at 9 a.m. May 31, with the concert starting at 1 p.m. at the gym.

Wakefield-Marenisco

Wakefield-Marenisco's spring concert, entitled "A Night at the Theater," will begin at 6 p.m. May 7 in school gymnasium. The performance will consist of music from television, theater and movies.

Watersmeet

The Watersmeet Township School District is holding its annual spring concert Thursday at 6 p.m. in the school's gymnasium. Along with performances by the various grades, the concert will feature the return of the popular faculty rock ensemble, who will not only perform a tribute to Fleetwood Mac but join the senior high band to close the show.

Ewen-Trout Creek

In addition to Tuesday's POPS concert, E-TC is hosting "An Evening of the Arts" May 23 at the school. Combining the artistic and musical talents of the district's students, the event starts at 5:30 p.m. with an "empty bowl soup fundraiser," followed by a 7 p.m. choir performance.

Ontonagon

The Ontonagon 6-12 band will perform at 7 p.m. May 17.
