ONTANAGON, Mich. — Rose Sophie Mattson, 93, of Bruce Crossing passed away Friday, July 12, 2019, at Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital.
Rose was born on March 8, 1926, in Lake Linden to the late Isaac and Sophie Lervic. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry A. Mattson; a beloved sister, Ruth (Erik) Lytikainen; and a brother, Rueben (Ruth) Lervic.
She is survived by one son, Gerald D (Sharon) Mattson; granddaughter, Melissa Ann (Parker Burshem) Mattson; grandsons, Anthony Isaac and Andrew John Mattson; great-granddaughter, Rose Eliina Mattson; sister, Rachel (Willam) Smith; sister-in-law, Marilyn (Leo) Mattson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rose graduated from Lake Linden-Hubbell High School in 1943. She then went to work in Detroit where she met Harry Mattson and they were married in March of 1953, making their home in Detroit. In 1975, they moved back to Bruce Crossing, where they spent their “Golden Years.”
Rose was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the Apostolic Lutheran Church of Bruce Crossing.
Services for Rose Mattson will be held on Friday, July 19, at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to services at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Bruce Crossing. Pastor Jesse Aho is officiating. Committal will follow at the Hillside Cemetery in Bruce Crossing.
