Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties
By RICHARD JENKINS
MADISON, Wis. — Gov. Tony Evers announced Friday he is looking for applicants interested in filling Patrick Madden’s seat as Iron County Circuit Judge.
Madden died unexpectedly in his sleep while at his home on July 9. He served on the bench for 33 years, starting as an appointee himself after Gov. Anthony Earl appointed him in June 1986 to replace retiring judge John Varda.
Gary Carlson, of Medford, is serving as a reserve judge for the county until Evers appoints Madden’s replacement.
Whoever Evers appoints as a replacement will complete the term ending June 30, 2020.
Applications for the position can be found on the “Apply to Serve” page of evers.wi.gov, according to an announcement from Evers, and completed “Judge or Justice” applications should be sent to [email protected].
The deadline to apply is 5 p.m., Aug. 15.
Anyone with questions about the selection process can contact the governor’s office of legal counsel at 608-266-1212.
