BERGLAND, Mich. – Norma "Dolly" Bailey, 91, a lifelong resident of Bergland, passed away early Friday morning, Aug. 9, 2019.
Dolly was born on June 2, 1928, in Bergland, a daughter of Neil James and Norma Elizabeth (Peterson) Ferguson. She attended Bergland High School.
On Aug. 3, 1946, Dolly married the love of her life, Herbert Asa Bailey. They made their home in Bergland and were blessed with three daughters.
She was a cherished wife, devoted mother and a wonderful homemaker. Dolly loved her family unconditionally and always looked forward to their visits, especially with her grandchildren. Through the years, she took great pride making beautiful handmade quilts for her children and grandchildren. Dolly was an excellent baker and truly enjoyed playing the piano. A strong faith got her through the difficult times and gave her comfort at the end.
She was a knowledgeable member of the Bergland/Matchwood Historical Society.
Dolly is survived by three daughters, Gay Fruik and LaVonne (Dave) Niemi, both of Bergland, and Gwen (Darryl) Mason, Duluth, Minn .; seven grandchildren, Michelle (Don) Geist, Amy (Ken) Libertoski, Dave (Jacquie) Niemi, Pam (Jason) Partin, Debbie Niemi, Brenda (Jeremy) Graves and Bryan (Misty) Mason; 11 precious great-grandchildren, Kyle and Stephanie Geist, Justin, Jacob and Jill Libertoski, Hunter Niemi, Samantha Partin, Jessica and Michael Graves and Zachary and Ariel Mason; a dear great-great-grandson, Griffin Geist; a brother, Clarence (Reiko) Ferguson; and many special nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; her beloved husband, Herbert, on Feb. 4, 1993; her son-in-law, Ralph Fruik; a sister, Marguerite Peterson; and a brother, James "Junior" Ferguson.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Aug. 17, at 4 p.m. (EDT), preceded by visitation at 3:30 p.m. EDT, at the Bergland United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ted Trudgeon officiating.
A committal service and interment will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in Bergland, followed by a farewell dinner.
