MEDFORD, N.J. - James Lynn Johnson of Medford, passed away on Sept. 17, 2019, after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease. He was 79 years old. Born in Ironwood, Mich., Jim is the son of the late George and Sophie (Kleimola) Johnson and is the youngest of four siblings.
He is survived by his brother, Paul Johnson of Cupertino, Calif .; and preceded by late brothers, Leroy Johnson from Brookings, S.D., and Robert Johnson from Pasadena, Texas.
Jim is the husband of Mary Ellen (Whitney) Johnson; and father of Karen Hertzog (spouse Christopher Hertzog) from Downingtown, Pa., Craig Johnson from Newtown, Pa., and James L. Johnson Jr. Ph.D. from Henniker, N.H.
Raised on Johnson Truck Farm and Nursery in Ironwood, Mich., in 1966, Jim entered the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of captain. Upon graduating from the University of Houston, his career in the pharmaceutical industry began at Smith, Kline & French. He retired in 2000 as vice president of commercial development at Covance Pharmaceutical Services.
Jim had a love of skiing, the beach in Cape May, N.J., going to the theater, and traveling with his wife Mary Ellen. He was always happiest spending time with his family and his grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet his family on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Bradley & Stow Funeral Home at 127 Medford-Mt. Holly Road, Medford. Interment will be held privately. All are invited to continue a celebration of Jim's life at Braddock's Tavern on Main Street in Medford at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served.
