HURLEY, Wis. - Sally Marie (Sawaski) Kivisto, 77, of Ironwood Township, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019, at the Villa Maria Nursing Home in Hurley.
Sally was born on June 19, 1942, in Wakefield, Mich., the daughter of Harry and Marcella (Ahnen) Sawaski. She graduated from Wakefield High School in 1960 and married Rudolph "Rudy" Kivisto in 1961. Sally and Rudy settled in Ironwood Township where they raised their four wonderful sons. They were married for 34 years before Rudy passed away unexpectedly in 1995.
She was a loyal member of the Gogebic Range Beagle Club for many years, the Ironwood Booster Club and Trinity Lutheran Church. Sally was extremely proud of her family and their accomplishments, including athletics, recitals, music, coaching, hunting, and everything else they took pride in. She was "Meme" to all her grandchildren. She was a caregiver and housekeeper for many years and always lent a helping hand. She enjoyed watching all Detroit teams, cooking and baking, playing cards with friends and watching her grandchildren's various events.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Marcella Sawaski; her husband, Rudy; and niece, Stacy Kivisto.
She is survived by her children, Michael (Gina) of Superior, Mark (Andrea) of Menomonee Falls, James (Gina) of Hurley, and Jay (Stacey) of Montreal; grandchildren, Micki, Nicole, Jessica, Ryan, Cody, Tyler, Cole, Brandon, Rachel, Amber, Kendahl and Gabe; great-grandchildren, Emersyn, Braydon, Masyn, Jack, Andee, Cooper, Addie, Hudson and Carter; siblings, Don (Pam) Sawaski and Jill (Fred) Hinch; brother-in-law, Forrest (Ginger) Kivisto; sister-in-law, Audrey (Denis) Hower; nieces, Crystal and Suzie; nephew, Corey; close friends, Kris Bennets and MaryAnn Torma; and many other friends.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Oct. 18, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ironwood Township at noon preceded by a visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
Interment will take place at Sunset Acres Cemetery, Ironwood Township, following the service. A luncheon will be held at The Bell on U.S. 51 in Hurley from 3 to 4 p.m.
Sally is loved and will be deeply missed by all her family and friends.
