Hurley - The community group Northern Iron County Engaged Residents, or NICER, is seeking volunteers to help with its inaugural Spooky Halloween Trail Walk.

The walk is planned from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27 at the Hurley K-12 School's adventure trails, followed by food and beverages in the school commons area. Although the walk is suggested for kids grades five and under, organizers said it is open to anyone in the community.

"The Spooky Halloween Trail Walk was suggested at NICER's September planning meeting," said Rebecca Holm, a NICER member helping coordinate the event. "Since the Hurley Fun Frolic no longer takes place, we wanted to offer something fun and safe for kids in our area to do during the week of Halloween."

Area groups, businesses and other organizations have signed up to dress up and hand out candy to kids as they complete the trail walk but organizers said more volunteers are needed.

They said the walk will be held in the school commons area if the weather is bad. They also thanked the community and area businesses for the donations that are helping make the event possible.

People can visit the NICER Facebook page for more details.

Anyone interested in volunteering, or with questions about the event, can contact Holm at 715-561-2695 or [email protected].
