EWEN, Mich. - William Hubert Anderson, 84, was born in Ewen on March 28, 1935. He passed away Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019.
He was predeceased by his parents, Hubert and Olga Anderson; sisters, Doris (Leonard) Niemela, Edith (David) Waineo and Corrine (David) Coponen; his first-born, infant son, Robert and his grandson, Dean Riutta.
He is survived and deeply missed by his loving wife of 62 years, Jean (Sunnarborg) Anderson; and by his six children, Ross (Kathy) Anderson, Sandra (Bradley) Riutta, Karen (Randolph) Kangas, Judith (James) Traffie, Gerald (Lola) Anderson, Debra (Calvin) Matson. Also survived by his brother, Robert (Eileen) Anderson, and his sister, Barbara (Ralph) Somero; also 36 grandchildren, 48 nieces and nephews; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Having grown up on the family farm, Bill enjoyed telling stories of Upper Peninsula life in the 1940's.
After two years in the U.S. Army, including service in Germany, Bill and Jean married, making their home in Detroit. He apprenticed in the tool and die trade, and worked for Ford Motor Co. for 40 years.
His interests included hobby farming, carpentry, and spending time with family. Active in his Christian faith, he served as a lay pastor and teacher.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 11 a.m. with the family receiving friends beginning at 10 a.m. at Our Savior Apostolic Lutheran Church, 54899 Eight Mile Rd., Northville. A light lunch will follow the funeral service at the church. William will be laid to rest in Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. http://www.phillipsfuneral.com.
