IRONWOOD, Mich. - Elizabeth Anne Mesun, 58, beloved and cherished wife and mother from Ironwood Township, passed away on Oct. 28, 2019, at Aspirus Ironwood Hospital.
She was born Elizabeth Anne Ehlers in Two Harbors, Minn., on April 21, 1961. She was the youngest of six children of the late Walter and Margaret Ehlers of Silver Bay, Minn. She graduated from William Kelley High in Silver Bay in 1979 and went on to study art at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. She married Brian Mesun in 1981 and their son, Timothy, was born in 1994. She and her family moved to Ironwood Township in 1997.
Over the years Elizabeth worked in retail and in banking. She taught Sunday School, worked with 4-H and performed many story hours at the libraries in Ironwood and Bessemer. For 13 years she home schooled her son, Tim, from kindergarten through 12th grade.
Elizabeth is survived by her devastated husband and son; her brother, John (Jeanne) Ehlers of Duluth, Minn .; and sisters, Sarah Ehlers and Jane Ehlers of Superior, Wis. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Susan Marten; and her brother, Jim Ehlers.
Elizabeth loved gardening, she was a voracious reader, enjoyed writing, art, music and learning. She loved being with her family. She was a vibrant, caring, loving, selfless and kind woman who will be forever missed by her family and her friends.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at the Historic Ironwood Theatre in Ironwood on Friday, Nov. 8, at 1 p.m. All who knew her are welcome.
