Ironwood — As they have since the tradition started, local skiers will likely fill the Historic Ironwood Theatre this weekend as the theater screens Warren Miller’s latest film, “Timeless.”

The movie will start at 7 p.m. Saturday, with doors and the theater’s bar opening at 6 p.m.

The annual debut of the latest Warren Miller film is seen by many as the unofficial start of the local ski season, something Warren Miller independent promoter Dan Tregembo said has definitely taken place in Ironwood since the theater started showing the movies five years ago.

“(The screenings have) grown every year. It’s kind of the one place on the season where you get people from every ski hill together in one spot, so it’s kind of unique,” Tregembo said.

This year’s film, “Timeless,” will take viewers to skiing destinations around the world — including locations in British Columbia, France, Austria, Switzerland, Colorado and Jackson Hole.

The movie is a fundraiser for the Ironwood High School’s self-funded ski team, the Snow Country Ski Club.

“It pays for coaching, travel, races — all expenditures for the ski team,” Tregembo said, adding the team is also open to skiers from the other local schools.
