Ironwood - The Luther L. Wright K-12 School's cafeterias were extra crowded during lunch Wednesday as the district hosted the first of this year's holiday meals.

During the meals, parents and grandparents could join their children for a meal during the school day.

"It's good. We get a good turnout with parents," Food Service Director Mary Hampston Kusz said, regarding the meals. The menu this year features different food each meal - including turkey and gravy, lasagna or breakfast. The district has been offering the holiday meals for roughly five years.

Hampston Kusz said a group of volunteers - including sixth-graders, local 4-H members, National Honor Society members, the Ironwood Carnegie Library and Ironwood Booster Club - all were on hand to help make the event possible.

Wednesday's lunch featured Ironwood's first and third grades, with the rest of the K-6 grades having their holiday meals later this month. For parents with kids in grades not part of Wednesday's lunch, there is still time to RSVP to participate.

Families of those having meals on Dec. 11 have until Friday to sign up, Hampston Kusz said, while families of students having their meals on Dec. 18 have until Dec. 13 to RSVP.

Contact the district at 906-932-0932 for more information on the meals.
