KIMBALL, Wis. - Helvie B. (Kivi) Pelkola, 94, a lifelong resident of Kimball, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2019, at her residence in the town of Kimball.
She was born Dec. 21, 1924, in the town of Kimball, the daughter of William and Ellen (Etula) Kivi and attended school in both Meadville and Hurley. On Sept. 20, 1941, she was united in marriage to Eugene "Pick" Pelkola, also of Kimball, by the Rev. Chester L. Harries.
Helvie was a wonderful homemaker, happy at home and in her community with family and friends. She enjoyed the outdoors, and most especially the summers spent camping with her husband and grandchildren.
Helvie is survived by a son, David (Jenny) of Galena, Alaska; a daughter, Debbie (Louis) Tolvanen of Wilson, Wis .; a daughter-in-law, Rose Pelkola of Kimball; a son-in-law, Donald Hill of Ironwood; sister, Helmi Anderson of Kimball; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents; a son, Wayne in 1980; husband, Eugene in 1986; a daughter, Lynda in 2003; brothers, Carl, Sulo and Art Kivi; and sisters, Sylvia Swanson, Helga Wyklent, Ellen Skoveria, Edna Balistreri, Mae and June Kivi, and Helen Lanta; and grandsons, Darryl Hill and Timothy Monio Jr.
Helvie was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ironwood. A memorial service will be held on Monday, Dec. 23, 2019, 11 a.m. at the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell St., Ironwood, the Rev. Nicole Hanson-Lynn officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service. A burial in the Hurley Cemetery will be planned in the spring.
