George B. Wallis

KING, Wis. - George B. Wallis, a lifetime resident of Hurley, passed away peacefully on Dec. 26, 2019, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King.

He was born on Feb. 25, 1924, to Myrtle (Gerry) and James Wallis, of Cary.

George served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 32nd Infantry Division, assisting his Army brothers during the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium. After serving in the Army, he worked in the iron ore mines in Montreal and Cary, later working for Wayne Nasi Construction from which he retired.

He was an avid hunter and loved to fish, but his passion was trapping beaver with his special friend Jay Vittone.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou; son, George Jr. "Porgie;" daughter, Diane; grandchildren, Daniel Wallis, Kevin Kirkley and Scott Wallis; his parents; and numerous brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his son, Greg (Sharon) Wallis; daughter, Betty Ann; daughter-in-law, Lori Wallis; grandchildren, Dawn Wallis (John Munda), Greg (Abby) Wallis, Diane (Lloyd) Jacobsen, Chris (Amy) Wallis, Janeena Behrendt and Bob (Christy) Kirkley; a sister, Gwendolyn; a brother, Bill (Lois) Wallis; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a family interment at Hurley Cemetery with military rites in the spring.

In lieu of gifts or flowers, per my grandfather's wishes, please help another veteran.
