IRONWOOD, Mich. - Floyd Peter Erickson Jr., 84, a longtime resident of Bessemer (Puritan Location), died Friday, Jan. 3, 2020, at Aspirus Ironwood Hospital.
Floyd was born on April 11, 1935, son of the late Floyd W. and Pauline (Hodge) Erickson Sr.
He joined the U.S. Army and was very proud of serving his country. He also was a volunteer driver for the VA and drove the DAV van for 16 years. He was very proud of the services he was able to provide for other veterans.
Floyd loved camping, fishing, working on cars, going to auctions, volunteering, traveling and spending time with family and friends. He was always willing to help out family and friends whenever he could. He was also a storyteller, and his stories kept us laughing and thinking.
Besides joining the Army, he worked at many jobs throughout his life including Ahonen Lumber Company, White Pine Copper Mine, roofing and the list goes on, just to name a few.
Floyd married Shirley Mae Kujala on Aug. 7, 1954, in Ironwood. She preceded him in death. He was a very good husband, Dad, and friend to many.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley; brother, Lawrence "Buddy" Erickson; and stepbrother, Randy Erickson.
Floyd is survived by daughters, Cindy (Dean) Milton and Robin (Charles) Mowitt; son, Mark (Cindy) Erickson; seven grandchildren, Shirley, Shaun, Lisa, Nichole, Troy, Alex and Mya; five great-grandchildren, Ryder, Adryana, Emmy, Roman and Baylor; brothers, Edward Erickson of Arizona, Robert "Bobbie" (Donna) Erickson of Ironwood and Wally Erickson of Bessemer; sisters, Lois Peterson of Ironwood, Mary Jane Erickson of Minnesota and Barbara (Joe) Pisco of Ironwood; stepbrothers, Donny Erickson of Oregon, Terry Erickson of Ironwood and Gary (Kathy) Erickson of Ironwood; stepsisters, Sue Erickson of Oregon and Crystal Erickson of Bessemer; special sister-in-law, Ester Maki and her family; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
At Floyd's request, there will not be a funeral service; however, there will be a small memorial gathering of family and close friends on Saturday, Jan. 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Living Waters Church in Ironwood with Pastor Gary Grabow officiating.
