IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP - The Red Bull 400 is returning to Copper Peak for a third year in 2020.
The company announced this year's race schedule Tuesday, with the Ironwood Township ski flying hill set to host its competition May 16.
Billed as the world's steepest 400-meter race; the Red Bull 400 features competitors starting at the base of Copper Peak's landing hill, racing up it before attempting to be the first to conquer the structure itself.
This year's event at Copper Peak will be the third race of the 2020 Red Bull 400 season, which features a total of 19 events around the world - including races in Park City, Utah; Steamboat, Colorado; and Whistler, Canada; as well as races in Finland, Russia, Korea, Japan, Turkey and Kazakhstan.
"(The) Red Bull 400 is tough. It's pain. It's brutal. But it's rewarding. It's relief. It's victory," a Red Bull spokesperson said in the season preview announcing the race dates. "The one thing that unites Red Bull 400 competitors is their desire for a challenge, their need to test themselves to beyond their limits."
This is the 10-year anniversary of the Red Bull 400, according to the spokesperson, with the races growing from 261 athletes in the original event to 18,400 participants in 2019.
Registration for the Copper Peak race opens Feb. 11, according to a post on Copper Peak's Facebook page.
