LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. — Wayne Smith, 86, passed away Jan. 6, 2020, in Lake Havasu City, Ariz.
He was born in Ironwood and was the son of Walter and Eleanore Smith.
Wayne served in the army from 1953 to 1955, doing a tour of duty in Korea.
Afterwards he worked in a building supply and lumber sales, eventually co-owning the Iron River Building and Home Center, along with the Lumbermen’s Motel and Restaurant in Iron River.
During that time he was an active member of the Iron River Lions Club, serving for over 40 years and eventually becoming District Governor.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion and a longtime member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Betty; two sons, Tommy and Paul and a brother, Richard.
He is survived by his wife, Lynette; daughter, Linda of Palmer, Ariz .; a son, Craig (Cindy) of Muskego, Wis .; two grandsons; a brother, Rod (Jean); and an aunt, Shirley Aimone, along with numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. Wayne made many friends in his life’s journey and he will be missed.
A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held in Iron River, Wis. at the VFW on Memorial Day weekend.
