MARQUETTE - The case of a White Pine man arrested on drug charges in Wakefield is now in the federal court system, with an April jury trial scheduled in the case Wednesday.
A federal grand jury indicted Jesse James Monville, 45, on six charges - two counts of distribution of 5 grams or more of methamphetamine, on two counts of distribution of cocaine, one count of possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of meth, and one count of possession with intent to distribute heroin - on Jan. 30, according to online court documents.
Not guilty pleas were entered on the charges during Monville's Feb. 7 arraignment in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan.
Troopers with the Michigan State Police's Wakefield Post and members of the Gogebic Iron Area Narcotics Team originally arrested Monville in mid-December during a traffic stop in Wakefield after Gogebic County Prosecutor Nick Jacobs authorized a warrant on meth and cocaine distribution charges.
The arrest came at the end of an investigation that began in August 2019, according to a GIANT spokesman, which included several alleged controlled buys from Monville. A search of Monville's vehicle resulted in the alleged seizure of additional drugs.
The charges Monville faces carries a range of sentences, with the most serious - possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of meth - carrying a maximum penalty of between 10 years and life in prison and/or a $10,000,000 fine and at least five years of supervised release.
A total of seven charges against Monville in a pair of cases in Gogebic County Circuit Court were dismissed as a result of the federal indictment.
A federal jury trial is scheduled for April 7, if needed, according to online court documents.
