WAUSAU, Wis. - Walter N. Saubert, 80, of Bergland, Michigan, passed away on March 23, 2020, at the Aspirus Hospital in Wausau.
He was born on June 8, 1939, the son of the late Raymond and Roberta (Higgins) Saubert. After graduating from the Bergland High School in 1958, Wally served two years in the U.S. Army and two years in the army reserves. Wally and Paula Graves were married on May 19, 1962. He worked in the smelter as a maintenance man for the White Pine Copper Company.
Wally was a caring and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He enjoyed woodworking, refinishing furniture, planting beautiful flowers, picking wild raspberries and spending time with his grandchildren. A highlight of his year was the annual deer hunting in the camp bus with his sons, brothers and nephews.
He is survived by his wife, Paula, of Bergland; daughter, Lisa (Rob) Bearwald, of Oshkosh; two sons, Gregory (Melody) Saubert of Wakefield, Michigan, and Wally Jr. (Karen) Saubert of Bergland; grandchildren, Krystal (Mark) Haeger, of Montreal, Kaelea Bearwald, of Oshkosh, Dallas Saubert, Bessemer, Michigan, Mackenzie (Neil Balduc) Saubert, of Bessemer, and Callin Peitrowski of Flint, Michigan; two great-granddaughters, Alexis and Aria Heager of Montreal; a brother, Roger (Valerie) Saubert of Wakefield; as well as by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Carl Saubert; a sister, Susan Buckman; a son, David Sr .; and a grandson, David Jr. "D.J." Saubert.
A memorial services will be held at a later date with internment in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Bergland.
