Hurley -- Challenger Tanner Hiller defeated incumbent Jim Kichak to represent Mercer in the lone contested Iron County Board of Supervisors race in the April 7 election.
The results of the election, which were released Monday night due to a court ruling regarding the statewide election and the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, show Hiller received 76 votes to Kichak’s 63 in the District 14 race.
Hiller won’t be the only new face on the board, however, as Kathleen Byrns received 138 votes in her unopposed bid to fill a seat being vacated by Jay Aijala in District 1 (Hurley) and Anne McComas received 93 votes to fill the seat representing the town of Sherman in District 15 that was left vacant after the death of supervisor Brad Matson last year.
Results in the other 12 districts, where incumbents were all unopposed in their reelection bids, were as follows: District 2 (Hurley) Joe Pinardi received 100 votes; D3 (Hurley) Jamey Francis received 77 votes; D4 (Hurley) Larry Youngs received 126 votes; D5 (Gile) Bill Thomas received 128 votes; D6 (Montreal) Ken Saari received 172 votes; D7 (Kimball) Brandon Snyder received 172 votes; D8 (Saxon-Gurney) Karl Krall received 120 in Saxon and 54 in Gurney for a total of 174 votes; D9 (Anderson-Knight-Pence) Pat Hanson received 28 votes in Anderson, 58 votes in Knight and 66 votes in Pence for a total of 152 votes; D10 (Oma-Carey) Scott Erickson received 148 votes in Oma and 53 votes in Carey for a total of 201 votes; D11 (Mercer) John Sendra received 156 votes; D12 (Mercer) Opal Roberts received 160 votes; and D13 (Mercer) Tom Thompson Jr. received 109 votes.
