Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties
HURLEY - As of 7 a.m. this morning, Iron County's ATV/UTV trails were expected to open to riders.
Local officials warned that early season riding conditions still exist in some places and trail maintenance is continuing, and urged riders to use caution while enjoying the local trail system.
As always, riders should respect private property by staying on marked trails.
Although the Wisconsin Supreme Court overturned Gov. Tony Evers' Safer at Home Order Wednesday, officials also encouraged riders to observe recommended social distancing guidelines designed to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Even though the trail system is open, the annual Memorial Day ATV/UTV festivities have been postponed, and riders should follow the Hurley and Mercer chambers of commerce on Facebook for the latest details of upcoming events.
Vilas County also opened its trail system at 8 a.m. today, although there is a temporary detour around a segment of Landover Trails in Conover where there is high water.
