HURLEY, Wis. - Thomas J. Cvengros, 80, of Hurley, passed away on May 19, 2020 at his home in Hurley.
He was born Dec. 22, 1939, in Ironwood, Michigan, the son of Michael and Lucille (Gravitz) Cvengros. He attended local schools and attended Northland College in Ashland where he received a bachelor's degree and then furthered his education and received a CPA degree. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served for three and a half years.
Thomas was raised Catholic and attended Our Lady Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood. He was also a member of the Jaycee's and served on many community projects.
He was dean of business at Gogebic Community College and acting president for one year, retiring in 2004 after 33 years of service.
Thomas loved reading, playing cards with "the gang," and particularly loved the outdoors enjoying camping, fishing, and hunting; but he especially loved his Langford Lake property. He was a very humble man, and everyone knew his unique sense of humor and witty sarcasm.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Lucille Cvengros; brothers, Joseph and James Cvengros; sisters, Rita Grasso and Patricia Nichols; nephews, David and Glenn Grasso and Michael Cvengros; brothers-in-law, James "Squeak" Nichols and Joseph Grasso; sister-in-law, LaVerne Cvengros; and in-laws, Nelson and Marjorie Cobleigh.
Thomas is survived by his devoted wife, Jayne; son, Stephen (Lali) of the Netherlands; deeply adored daughter, Jennifer Cvengros (Keith Towne); grandchildren, Paris and Sylvie; nieces and nephews, Diana Zarzyski, Cathy (Warren) Geyer, Sue (Steve) Pallin, Heather Christianson, Michelle (Michael) Johnson, Jane Horgan, Joe (Jennifer) Cobleigh, Dan (Connie) Cvengros and Chad (Tabitha) Andrist; sister-in-law, Kathleen (Damian) Dominski; brother-in-law, Robert (Bernadette) Cobleigh; numerous other loving relatives and friends; and his devoted sidekick, his cat, Clyde.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
