IRONWOOD — The Historic Ironwood Theatre announced Wednesday it was awarded a COVID-19 Emergency Relief grant of $3,000 from the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA), according to a Thursday announcement from the theatre.
The funding is available from the National Endowment for the Arts through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The act made a total of $502,400 in one-time grants from MCACA to eligible nonprofit arts and cultural organizations that are negatively impacted by the pandemic.
“We are grateful for the MCACA and NEA grant support,” said Zona Wick, HIT board president. “It will help us maintain part-time staff so we can continue to build and enhance relationships with our supporters, develop and improve our online program delivery, and take advantage of the shut-down to tackle some overdue maintenance and construction projects.”
HIT Operations Manager Bruce Greenhill said the credit goes to the theatre’s grant writing team.
“As chair of the grant team, I know how hard we work at securing grants,” Greenhill said. “It is truly a pleasure to work with such dedicated and productive volunteers.”
Credit also goes to local musicians who contribute their time and talent to the ongoing Ten Minute Tuesdays, a weekly series of Facebook live posts, Greenhill said.
“While the theatre is dark, the weekly shows are our way of letting our regular patrons know that we are thinking about them,” he said. “This grant will help us keep those shows going.”
