IRONWOOD, Mich. — Doris Joanne Kindred (nee Silkworth), 89, died peacefully on Aug. 31, 2020. She is preceded in death by her husband, James; and her siblings.
Born April 12, 1931, in Prentice, Wisconsin, she married James Kindred on Oct. 18, 1952. They had seven children, Michael, Patricia Martin, Christine Oftedahl (Phil), Robert (Donna), Tina Larson, Karen Taddey (Mark) and Edward (Becky).
Mom was a nursing assistant for obstetrics as she "loved the babies." Mom also ran a home for the mentally disabled after her family moved to Ironwood in 1972.
Before her spiral into dementia, she enjoyed baking, gardening and sewing blankets for her grandchildren. She won a blue ribbon at the Gogebic County Fair for her prized potato. She was a huge fan of All-Star wrestling and attended events with her grandchildren, David and Nicole. She is loved and survived by her children, 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Her spunky spirit will be missed.
A grave-side service will be held Saturday, Sept. 12, at 1 p.m., at Riverside Cemetery in Ironwood. A private children's celebration of her life will follow.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Alzheimer's Association.
