BRUCE CROSSING — A traffic stop in Bruce Crossing Thursday that was part of an ongoing drug investigation has led to the seizure of alleged crystal methamphetamine and the execution of a search warrant in the city of Hancock, a spokesperson with the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team announced Friday.
UPSET detectives received information regarding two individuals that were suspected of dealing meth who were traveling from Minnesota to Hancock with a large quantity of the drug, according to the UPSET announcement, and were able to locate the vehicle near Bruce Crossing.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of what UPSET officials called 7 ounces of meth hidden in the vehicle.
A subsequent search warrant was executed at the suspects’ house on Summit Street in Houghton, where alleged drug scales, packaging and other electronic devices detectives said were used to “facilitate illegal drug activity,” were seized.
An UPSET spokesperson valued the seized drugs at approximately $10,000 to $15,000.
“The traffic stop and search warrants are part of an ongoing, 9-month investigation that UPSET has been conducting into the illegal distribution of crystal meth in both Houghton County and Baraga County,” an UPSET spokesperson said in the announcement.
The Ontonagon and Houghton prosecutors are currently reviewing the case, according to UPSET.
