MONTREAL, Wis. - Evelyn Joyce Mezzano, 91, a lifelong resident of Montreal, passed away Saturday, Oct. 31, 2020.
Evelyn was born on April 16, 1929, in Montreal, a daughter of John C. and Impi (Eilo) Johnson. She attended J.E. Murphy High School in Hurley and graduated in 1947 as covaledictorian. After high school, she worked at Hansen Glove Factory in Ironwood, Michigan.
On Oct. 23, 1948, Evelyn was united in marriage to Raymond H. Mezzano at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Montreal. They celebrated nearly 71 years of marriage.
She was a talented homemaker and retired as a day service coordinator from Highline Corporation in Hurley.
Evelyn was a dedicated member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a supporting member of its Altar Society. After the church closed, she became a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley.
Evelyn enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, working in her flower and vegetable garden and canning. During the winter, she kept active by downhill skiing and later took up cross country skiing.
Evelyn is survived by two sons, Randall (Randy), Pine Lake, and Jeffrey R., Madison; two sisters, Barbara Jackson and Shirley (Bob) Ebli; a brother, Roland (Suzanne) Johnson; her sister-in-law, Marlene Johnson; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; other loving relatives; and special friends, Dennis (Shyanne) Gulan, Jim (Julie) Hewitt and Grandma Joyce's, Julia and Jessica.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Raymond, on May 18, 2019; two brothers, John Johnson and Wesley Johnson; her father-in-law, Anton Mezzano; her mother-in-law, Marjorie Mezzano Drazowski; two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Robert and Kathleen Mezzano, Robert Jackson and Donna Johnson; a niece, Maryann Mezzano; and two nephews, Greg Johnson and Thomas Jackson.
The family is honoring Evelyn's life in a private graveside service at St. Mary's Cemetery in Hurley. The Rev. Frank Kordek OFM will officiate.
