IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Robert “Bob” N. Fredrickson, 86, of Ironwood Township, passed away at his home on Oct. 26, 2020.
He was born on Feb. 12, 1934, to his parents Einar Clarence Fredrickson and Helmi Emily (Hautanen) Fredrickson, who preceded him in death.
Bob graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood in 1952. He attended Gogebic Community College in Ironwood and Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin. After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in physics in 1962, he worked for Martin Marietta in Denver, Colorado, as a computer analyst. In 1964, he moved to St. Paul, Minnesota, to work for Sperry Univac as a systems programmer until his retirement in 1989. Prior to graduating from college, he was a member of the Michigan National Guard from 1952 to 1960. Bob traveled to many countries with his job at Univac. He spent time in Japan and Switzerland, and continued to maintain friendships with people he met.
Bob lived at his Tuulimaa (Wind Land) Berry Farm in Ironwood after his retirement. He loved farming and sharing this love with his nieces and nephews. They fondly remember sitting on his bulldozer. He rarely let anyone drive his tractor, so it was an honor to be granted that privilege. He loved his dogs, Jenny and Jake, and missed them when they were gone. He enjoyed coffee with his neighbors at the lake and visiting with people who stopped by.
Survivors include his brother, Clarence J. (Valerie) Fredrickson of Ironwood; and niece and nephews, Peter (Julie) Fredrickson of Hazelhurst, Wisconsin, Paula (Stephan) Furlich, Minnetonka, Minnesota, and David (Linda) Fredrickson of Calumet. He will be greatly missed by his grandnieces and grandnephews, Eric, Emily, Greg, Zack, Elizabeth, Jon, Travis, Maxx and Katie; and his great-grandnieces and great-grandnephew, Ginny, Freddy and Lily.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Jerald Rocco at Lakeside Memorial Chapel in Wakefield. A spring memorial service honoring his memory will take place at his beloved property. No date has been set.
