Hurley — The incumbents won out in Iron County Tuesday night as the current office holders in both of the county’s contested races fended off challengers in Tuesday’s general election.
Iron County Clerk Michael Saari received 2,223 votes across the county to defeat Christan Brandt’s 1,712 votes, while District Attorney Matthew Tingstad received 2,398 votes to overcome Douglas Muskett’s 1,506 votes.
“I’m excited about the win and I’m ready to focus 100% back on my daily duties representing the people of Iron County,” Tingstad told the Daily Globe Wednesday morning.
Tingstad has held the office since 2017.
Saari first ran for clerk in 1998 and has held the office since.
“I appreciate the votes and I appreciate the confidence,” Saari said, noting he was the only Democrat in a contested race on the ballot to win in the county.
Iron County Treasurer Clara Maki and Iron County Register of Deeds Daniel Soine received 3,086 and 3,067 votes respectively in their unopposed re-election bids.
