WAUSAU, Wis. - Bonnie J. (Bahun) Kivi, 64, a lifetime resident of Ironwood, passed away peacefully on Oct. 19, 2020, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on Feb. 6, 1956, in Ironwood, Michigan, daughter of Anton and Venita (Swanbeck) Bahun. She attended Luther L. Wright High School and studied at Suomi College
In 1975, she married John Kivi.
Bonnie loved all animals and always had a pet of some kind, whether it was a dog or something more exotic, like an iguana. She loved solitude and being in nature. The porch of their home in the woods was a feeding place for birds, squirrels, skunks, rabbits, deer, and even an occasional bear. One of Bonnie's favorite porch visitors for the past 10 years has been Blanch, an albino squirrel. She was also known to always have her fishing pole in the car, just in case she spied a good fishing spot on her occasional travel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Venita Bahun.
Bonnie is survived by her husband, John; sons, Shane (Amy) Kivi and Jesse Kivi; two granddaughters that she adored, Hailey and Brooklyn; sister, Kathy (Donald) Jossart; brothers, Larry and Steve (Darlene) Bahun; numerous nieces and nephews; and her two dogs, Kacey and Rizzo.
In consideration of the current pandemic, the family is waiting to hold a memorial service at a later date.
The family has chosen McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home of Ironwood to honor Bonnie's legacy of life. You can leave a condolence or a tribute at mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.
