Ironwood — The Ironwood Carnigee Library will continue to offer curbside services only through the end of the month, following the continued increase of COVID-19 in the area, according to library director Lynne Wiercinski.
The library had originally planned on resuming in-person services on Monday.
“When you’re looking at what are numbers are currently in this community, and the govenor’s statement on Sunday night discussing what the needs of Michigan are, we’re just going to continue to play it safe here at this point and time and providing are services by curbside and virtual,” Wiercinski said.
According to Wiercinski, patrons are well adjusted to the curbside method of library services, having been utilizing it since March.
“Our patrons are very used to (curbside service). While of course they’d love to come in and no one would opt to do curbside over in-person visits, they understand our reason for it,” she said.
Library books can be requested by calling the library or emailing the library at circulation@ironwoodcarnegie.org. Patrons can also request a book by utilizing the online card catalog. Interlibrary loans are also available. The library continues to offer limited home-delivery services for those who cannot get to the library due to illness or physical limitations.
Patrons who are not able to get out of their car are asked to pop open the trunk or roll down a window, and books will be placed into their car by library staff. Other patrons can pick up their books from a table located at the curb.
Books can be returned to the library via either the book return drop box located at top of the handicapped ramp off Norfolk Street where curbside services are administered, or placed in a book bin that will be under the curbside delivery table during. All books are quarantined for 96 hours after they are returned, said Wiercinski.
Curbside services are available Monday and Friday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and 2 to 5 p.m .; and on Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 5 p.m.
