Shirley Ann Kuehnl

WAKEFIELD, Mich. - Shirley Kuehnl, formerly of Wakefield, passed away the morning of Dec. 7, 2020.

Shirley was born Nov. 27, 1931, in Flint to Alfred and Lempie (Stenfors) Peth of Clio.

She graduated from Clio High School in 1950, and served two years in the U.S. Air Force as a control tower operator.

On June 27, 1959, Shirley was married to Robert Kuehnl in Bruce Crossing, where they made their home before moving to Wakefield in 1968. Shirley then attended and graduated from nursing school, and was a licensed practical nurse at Grand View Hospital for 25 years, before retiring in 1994.

Shirley was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and was always there for us whenever we needed her.

She enjoyed reading, gardening, traveling, feeding the birds, attending plays and musicals and renting a cabin at Moraine Lake every summer.

For the past seven plus years, Shirley was a resident at Cardinal Ridge Assisted Care Facility in Howard, Wisconsin. She enjoyed living closer to her sons, and she was very fond of the caregivers at Cardinal Ridge.

Survivors include two sons, Mark Scofield, of Menominee, and Scott (Sue) Kuehnl, of Green Bay, Wisconsin; two grandsons, Brian (Brian) Tibaldo and Michael Kuehnl, all residents of Edina, Minnesota; three sisters, Fay Rhodes, of Clio, Barbara Nicholas, of Orlando, Florida, and Linda Gross, of Clio; and several nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob, on July 25, 1996; and her sister, Donna Eddelbeck.

Shirley died from complications of COVID-19. We want to thank the staff at St. Mary's Hospital Medical Center in Green Bay for their wonderful care of our mother in her final days, and the exceptional staff at Cardinal Ridge, who provided a home away from home for mom for the past seven years.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in the spring.

Interment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Bruce Crossing.

Whenever you see a cardinal, please think of Shirley.
