Marenisco - An open house for Santa and area children was a big success on Saturday at the Marenisco Town Hall.
The one-hour event drew a steady stream of visitors to greet the seasonal icon with precautions in place in respect to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the festively decorated hall, tables were placed several feet apart from each other, so that family members could visit separately during the event.
Kids took turns approaching Santa but did not sit in his lap. Instead, they stood and visited nearby him.
Children also were welcome to take their pick of toys that were strewn across a long table and the floor. They included puzzles, games, dolls and cars.
"People were so generous," said Marenisco Township Clerk Donna Kenney, who explained that all of the items were donated by community members.
Kenney said that she put a call out on Facebook and resulted with an "overwhelming" response.
"I think our kids have missed out on enough this year," she said in explaining the determination to follow through with the annual event.
