HURLEY, Wis. - Doris E. Carlson, 100, of Hurley, formerly a lifelong resident of Ironwood, Michigan, passed away Thursday, Dec. 24, 2020.
Doris was born on July 25, 1920, a daughter of Paul and Clarice DeFelice. Doris attended St. Ambrose Grade School.
She worked at the A&P store where she met her husband, John. She also worked at Red Owl and Carlson's Super Market.
On July 6, 1946, Doris was married to John Carlson at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Ironwood. They celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary.
Doris was a devoted mother, sister, daughter and grandmother. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting and baking. She loved to play cards with her husband.
Doris was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood. She was a Eucharistic minister for many years and served with the Ladies of the Funeral Pall.
Doris is survived by a son, Paul (Tina) Carlson, Lake Gogebic, Michigan; a daughter, Clarice (Charles) Lewis, Ironwood; a grandson, Brian (Angela) Carlson, Menominee, Michigan, and their children, Wyatt and Garett; a granddaughter, Lori (Barry) Wicklund, Mosinee, and their children, Paige, Emily and Tristan; a grandson, Barry (Miquel) Lewis, Ironwood; a granddaughter, Cassie (Nathan) Meade, Minocqua, and their children, Nicholas and Emma; her dear friend, Irene Hewitt; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John, on Nov. 5, 2020; an infant daughter; and seven siblings and their spouses.
Out of respect for Doris' wishes, cremation has taken place.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center for their support and devoted care to Doris while she was a resident there.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Jerald Rocco at the Lakeside Memorial Chapel Inc., in Wakefield, Michigan.
