TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Sidney Mark Fleishman, 94, of Tallahassee, a former resident of Wakefield, Michigan, died peacefully Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021, at home with members of his family by his side.
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and raised in New York City, he was the son of Max and Rose (Schenderovsky) Fleishman.
Sid served in the Maritime Service (Merchant Marines) during World War II.
Following the war, he worked ultimately as an executive engineer with GTE (Verizon).
After retirement, he moved to Florida and fulfilled a lifelong dream by earning both his bachelor's and master's from Florida State University. He enjoyed his election to the position of student body president at the Panama City branch campus at the age of 55.
Sid was a man of many talents and was always intellectually curious. He enjoyed sailing, flying airplanes and construction projects. In addition, he put his degrees to work and taught special education classes in both Panama City and Tallahassee. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his artistic bent.
Sid was a lifetime member of the Masons raised in a California Lodge and a member of Faith Presbyterian Church in Tallahassee.
He loved and is loved by his family. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia; four children, Susan (Sam) Travolta, Karen (Rodney) Evans, Tami Motherway-Kriss (Michael Kriss) and Tina (John Jr.) Lupiezowiec; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two sons, Mark and Gary.
A private graveside service will be held at the Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield at a later date.
