Anita R. (Hiltonen) Wiemeri

ROSEVILLE, Minn. - Anita R. (Hiltonen) Wiemeri, age 82, of Rose Pointe Senior Living, Roseville, passed away peacefully, Feb. 25, 2021.

Anita was born Oct. 6, 1938, in Hancock, Michigan. She married Ronald Wiemeri at Zion Lutheran Church in Ironwood, Michigan, in 1959.

Anita was a 1956 graduate of Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood. In 1958 she was a graduate of Spencerian Business College, Milwaukee. While living in Duluth, she received her Bachelor of Science in business education from the University of Minnesota-Duluth in 1972. She also instructed at the Duluth Business University in Duluth for four years. Moving to Owatonna, she was an instructor for 14 years at University of Minnesota-Waseca.

Upon their retirement and moving to the lake in Center City, Anita volunteered for 29 years at the Lindstrom Food Shelf and Chisago County Meals on Wheels. While living in Roseville for the past five years, Anita was a member of Roseville Lutheran Church.

Anita was a devoted wife, mother and friend. She was always interested in hearing what was going on in everyone's life around her. She will be remembered for her kindness to all, positive attitude, generosity and Finnish sisu.

Preceded in death by her parents, William and Julia (Hahka/Kuitila) Hiltonen from Chassell, Michigan, and buried in Atlantic Mine, Michigan; brother, Douglas and sister, Shirley Hiltonen, buried in Waasa Cemetery, Hancock Township, Hougton County, Michigan; parents-in-law, Waino and Aili Wiemeri, Ironwood Township, Michigan; brothers-in-law, Leon Schuler, Mt. Prospect, Illinois, and Thomas Wiemeri, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; nephew and his wife, William and Cathy Koski, Melrose Park, Illinois; and pet calico cats, Fluffy and Gretchen.

Anita will be dearly missed by her husband, Ronald Wiemeri; daughter, Karen Wiemeri; sisters, Delores Schuler and Elaine (Donald) Koski; sisters-in-law, Florence (Albert) Johnson and Nancy (Michael) Zbaracki; brother-in-law, Michael (Donna) Wiemeri; nephews, Jeffery (Mary) Koski, Dan (Dee) Johnson and Stephen (Kimberly) Johnson; nieces, Ruth (Michael) Kalin, Gloria (John) Sterns, Jean Wiemeri, Julie Zbaracki and Carolyn (Brian) Bennetts; grand-nieces, Christina (Jake) Fabian, Allison Koski, Melissa Johnson, Anna Johnson and Abby Wiemeri; grand-nephews, Johnathan Koski and Kevin Koski; dear Finnish friends, Maarit Tienaho-Ilkonen and Tuija Jurvanen; and many other friends.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, her funeral was private. A graveside service will be held later at Sunset Acres Cemetery in Ironwood Township.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to American Diabetes Association (diabetes.org) to further the research and to advance the discovery to minimize or cure Type 1 diabetes which Anita lived with for 55 years; or donation made to Rose Pointe Senior Living Memorial Floral Garden (rosepointeseniorliving.com).
