SAXON, Wis. — The Iron County Fair Board met Thursday and voted to go ahead with the 2021 fair for this summer.
“After the incredible progress our community has made over the last year, the board felt confident that the fair could take place this year in a safe environment for our attendees, volunteers and vendors,” Cortney Ofstad, marketing coordinator and fair secretary, said in a press release. “After having to cancel last year, the board is very excited to be able to continue moving forward with our favorite summer tradition.”
The fair is scheduled for Aug. 5-8 at the fairgrounds in Saxon.
With the spread of COVID-19 preventing the 2020 fair from taking place, things were uncertain for this year, according to Ofstad. However, the board continued to press forward to help make sure they were ready for whatever came next.
“The board has been hard at work over the last year and a half, ensuring that our grounds were well maintained, and that we had entertainment set and ready to go,” Ofstad said. “We’re very pleased with the lineup we have in place for this year with some familiar classics and some new events as well.”
One of the new additions is a carnival partnership with Badgerland Midways, of Stevens Point. The previous carnival, Earl’s Rides, of Weyauwega, had to close its doors during the pandemic.
“While we will certainly miss working with Earl’s Rides, we are looking forward to working with Badgerland Midways for this year’s fair,” Ofstad said.
“We can’t wait to see everyone at the fair this summer and are excited to bounce back after last year,” Ofstad said. “This is a tradition that so many people look forward to, and we believe this fair will be our best one yet.”
