HURLEY, Wis. - On Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2021, Roger "Ginty" Fontecchio, 78, of Hurley, passed away with his family by his side.
Roger was born to Herman "Nig" and Mary (Sterny) Fontecchio on Nov. 11, 1942. He attended St. Ambrose Catholic School in Ironwood, Michigan, and graduated in 1960.
On Oct. 5, 1968, he was united in marriage to Diane DeCarlo at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley.
Ginty was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
He proudly served 20 years in the Hurley Reserves, and was called to active duty in the fall of 1964, during the Milwaukee riots.
Ginty bowled, played softball and shot pool with the Iron County leagues. He was a member of the Eagle Bluff golf course. He regarded his friends at the club as family and loved his Wednesday night crew.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 52 years, Diane; a daughter, Vikki (Fred) Hissa and their children, Nicole, Jaclyn and Mitch; a son, Mike (Lindsey) Fontecchio and their children, Braxton, Isabella and Banx; a sister, Bobbie (Dennis) Tiziani; a brother, Bill (Sue) Fontecchio; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law and father-in-law; and his sister-in-law, Jean DeCarlo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, June 5, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 404 Iron St., in Hurley, with the Rev. Frank Kordek OFM, celebrant.
Rite of Committal and interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded by the Veterans Association of Hurley.
Jerald Rocco, owner and manager of Lakeside Memorial Chapel Inc., in Wakefield, Michigan, is assisting the family with their arrangements.
