IRONWOOD, Mich. - Edward A. "Eddie" Blomquist, 90, of Ironwood passed away on Dec. 9, 2020, at Aspirus Ironwood Hospital.
Edward was born on April 25, 1930, in Ironwood, the son of John and Hildur (Anderson) Blomquist. He attended local schools and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood in 1948.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from May 1951 to February 1953. After his military service, he worked at Tony & Pete's Gas Station in Ironwood. He then spent 34 years with the U.S. Postal Service. Most of that time he was a window clerk at the Ironwood Post Office. He was the postmaster in Ramsay for the last year and a half of his employment.
On June 8, 1957, Edward married Betty Olson, and she preceded him in death in November 1995.
He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood and sang in the church choir. He was also a member of the Cloverland Chorus. He was a lifelong fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Tigers. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, horseshoes, snowmobiling, playing cards, and reading.
Edward is survived by his sons, Jeff (Mary Kay) Blomquist, of Wausau, Wisconsin, and Mike Blomquist, of Ironwood; daughters, Jane (Robert) Sobolewski, of Ironwood, and Gail (Don) Wolfe, of Wausau;. His grandchildren include, Shaun (Kristie) and Alyse Marczak, Mikalah (Eric) Wiersema, Natalie, and Andrea Blomquist, Jared and Ryan Sobolewski, and Sierra Blomquist; and his great-grandchildren, Emma and Jack Marczak. He is also survived by in-laws, Karen and Steve Thomas, of Ironwood, and Gen Olson, of Pence.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Hildur Blomquist; wife, Betty; daughter, Karen Marczak; brother, John Blomquist; and sister, Mary Carlson. Also preceding Edward in death were sister-in-law, Carol Blomquist, and brothers-in-law, Leroy Carlson and Robert Olson.
A private memorial service will be held at Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood on Friday, June 11. A graveside service will be held following the service at Riverside Cemetery at approximately noon which will be open to the public.
