Carol Westeen

HURLEY, Wis. - Carol Westeen, 83, passed away on June 11, 2021.

She was born on March 9, 1938, to Emil and Sylvia Sorvala of Hurley, Wisconsin. Carol was a lifelong resident of the Ironwood and Hurley area.

Carol attended grade school in Montreal and then graduated from Hurley High School in 1956. She then enrolled at St. Luke's Hospital of Nursing in Superior. Upon completion of classes at St Luke's, Carol was united in marriage to James Westeen of Ironwood on June 22, 1957. Carol worked for Grandview Hospital until the time they started to raise their family in Ironwood Township. Here they would live for many years to come. Carol and Jimmy were married for 46 years.

Carol loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the most important part of her life. She was always there with a guiding hand to provide for everyone's needs, making sure they all had the best life possible. She was a special mother and grandmother at Christmas time, a holiday she always cherished with family and friends. Carol was the best Santa a child could have, making sure all her children would have unforgettable holiday memories for life.

She also had many dear and special lifelong friends. She enjoyed their family cabin in Manitowish Waters and all the wonderful times had there year after year. Once her children were grown, her time spent helping with grandchildren and traveling with Jimmy. A few of her regular destinations were the Twin Cities in Minnesota and Sarasota Florida.

Carol always kept active. She played Bridge regularly, exercised, had coffee time with her girlfriends, or was shopping, preferably at a mall with numerous clothing stores. In her later years, she worked with Jimmy as the bookkeeper for their family business in Ironwood, The News Record Printing & Office Supply Company.

Carol is survived by her three children. Michael (Debra) Westeen, of Webb Lake, Barton (Geraldine) Westeen, of Ironwood, and Jamee Westeen, of Minneapolis;. grandchildren, Nathan (Lisa) Westeen of Ironwood, Anthony Westeen of Ironwood, Shawn Westeen of Ironwood, and Jason Jameson of Minneapolis; stepchildren of Michael, Rory, Nicole, Richard and Amanda; two great-grandchildren, Delwyn Westeen and Braelyn Westeen of Ironwood; and Carol's brother, Frederic Sorvala of Dallas Texas.

She is preceded in death by her husband and parents

A family graveside service is planned for an upcoming date.
