Ironwood — The Ironwood Carnegie Library is hosting a book talk at 6 p.m. this evening, via Zoom, with up and coming author Maxwell Hurley.
Hurley, an Ironwood native, published the first two books in his young adult series “LIT” this year, and will be discussing the first book of the series along with his writing process, said library director Lynn Wiercinski.
“LIT: The Dark Ignites” was released in February and is the first in Hurley’s young adult series that lean toward more mature themes and the supernatural, the library press release said. The second book, “LIT: Falling Lite” has also recently been published, and the release of Hurley’s third book in the series online is anticipated online this week.
“The books are written as a young adult series, but I think that adults themselves would enjoy it also,” Wiercinski said. “I think anybody who is interested in the writing process itself (would enjoy the talk), whether it’s an adult or a young adult – a teen who is interested in learning a little bit about it.”
The genre of “good versus evil or dark versus lite” is pretty popular in young adult fiction right now, she said.
“It’s time is here. It’s definitely what’s being read right now,” Wiercinski said. “I would recommend it for older teens.”
Hurley served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years, with duties including military policing, information management and as a training specialist. He has traveled around the world and currently resides in Washington State with his wife and son.
