ERWIN TOWNSHIP - Many people flocked to the township hall in Erwin Township on Saturday for the fourth annual Cranberry Fest and rummage sale. This was the first time the two events have been held simultaneously, according to Amber Hurkmans, president of the Erwin Township Community Club.

Hurkmans said the two events were held at the same time because everything is still "kinda getting back to normal."

She said that one of their members works on the cranberry marsh in Manitowish Waters and so they are able to get locally grown cranberries. ETCC members then bake homemade baked goods to sell at the event.

"We just use it as an opportunity to get together and do something for our community," Hurkmans said of the events roots.

The event is a fundraiser for an annual $1,000 scholarship the ETCC awards to a "qualifying senior" from Erwin Township. Hurkmans said the event usually generates between $500-800. She said they won't know how many seniors qualify for the scholarship until April when they bring the applications to the schools. She did stress that home-schoolers are also eligible.

"Anybody that is graduating and going to college (from Erwin Township) is eligible," she said.
