Dorothy Hemming

WAKEFIELD, Mich. - Dorothy Hemming, 85, Wakefield, passed away on October 27, 2021, at Aspirus Iron River Hospital in Iron River, Michigan.

Dorothy was born on Jan. 14, 1936, in Wakefield to Frank and Vera (Cook) Raymond of Merriweather. Dorothy attended Bergland High School. Dorothy married Ralph Hemming of Bruce Crossing and shortly after made their home in Wakefield, with their eight loving children.

Dorothy was an avid sports fan who over the years attended many of her children's and grandchildren's baseball, football and basketball games. Dorothy loved to fish and looked forward to opening day for walleye fishing at Lake Gogebic and pro football season so she could root for her Minnesota Vikings. In her younger years, Dorothy was one of the top women bowlers in the area and bowled as often as she could. She also enjoyed bird hunting season, driving the gravel roads, and visiting her family and friends at the hunting camps.

Dorothy was an active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Ramsey.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Ron (Diane) Hemming, Ralph (Ann Marie Cooney) Hemming, Russell Hemming (fiancée Patty), Randy (Roberta) Hemming and Rick (Dawnette) Hemming; siblings, Frank (Porky) Raymond, Gerald Raymond, Carolyn Kariainen, Gary Raymond and Sally Cooney; grandchildren, Nathan Hemming, Brooks Hemming, Ross Hemming, Jillian Pomes, Kelly Steele, Jennifer Gary, Rayetta Parknowitz, Gary Parnowitz Jr., Ray Parknowitz, Lillian Cooney, Tosha Hemming, Josh Hemming, Randy Hemming Jr., Ryan Hemming, Heather Heikkila, Ken Brunell Jr, Andrew Brunell, Mathew Brunell, Veronica Hemming and Kaytlyn Hemming; as well as numerous great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph; children, Carol, Robert and Barbara; siblings, Verabel (Raymond) Johnson, Chester Raymond, Geraldean (Raymond) Sorenson, Charles Raymond and Delores (Raymond) Zwick.

A funeral service will be held at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 8223 Sanders Road, Ramsay, MI, on Monday, Nov. 1, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Timothy Steckling officiating, preceded by a visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Burial will take place at the Bergland Cemetery in Bergland.
