MELLEN, Wis. - Joseph David DiGiorgio, 78, of Hurley, Wisconsin, peacefully passed away on Nov. 13, 2021, surrounded by his family at Mellen Manor.
On Sept. 8, 1943, Joe was born the son of Agatino and Pearl (Mattson) DiGiorgio. Joe was a proud native of Hurley and graduated from J. E. Murphy High School in 1961.
After graduation, Joe enlisted in the United States Air Force. While stationed in England, Joe met the love of his life, Valerie F. (Andrews) DiGiorgio. They were united in marriage in Wroxton, England, on Aug. 14, 1965. After an honorable discharge in 1966, the happy couple returned to the Hurley area to start a family. Joe and Valerie spent most of their years working side-by-side as local business owners in Ironwood. Upon retirement, Joe and Valerie returned to Hurley.
Joe was an avid gardener who enjoyed fishing, hunting, basketball and rock music. He was a quiet man who was well known for his kind demeanor. Joe was also a loving, supportive husband, father and grandfather. His two sons and grandchildren were his pride and joy. Joe was most happy when spending time with his family and especially while watching his grandchildren play basketball.
Joe was preceded in death by parents, Agatino and Pearl.
He is survived by wife, Valerie; two sons, Andrew J. (Cari) DiGiorgio of Hurley, and Colin W. (Janet) DiGiorgio of Hurley; and six grandchildren, USAF Lt. Jacob C. DiGiorgio of Destin, Florida, Emily M. DiGiorgio, Matthew J. DiGiorgio, Nicole M. DiGiorgio, Melissa F. DiGiorgio and Olivia L. DiGiorgio, who all affectionately referred to him as "Byee."
Per Joe's wishes, a private family service will take place.
The family of Joe DiGiorgio would like to sincerely extend their gratitude to the Class of 1961 for the many years of laughs and friendship, and to the staff of Mellen Manor for their kindness, respect and compassion during this difficult time.
The family has chosen McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home of Ironwood to honor Joseph's legacy of life. You can leave a condolence or a tribute at mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.
